A hop, skip + jump from highways to NYC/Long Island, this Queens neighborhood has lots of custom designed large homes with the tax benefits of living in a borough of NYC.

From the NY Times:

Douglaston is bordered roughly by Little Neck Bay to the north, the Grand Central Parkway to the south, Bayside to the west and Little Neck to the east.

Residents have easy access to the 636-acre Alley Pond Park, with a range of amenities; the Udalls Cove Park Preserve, an inlet with marshes and wetlands; and the 18-hole public Douglaston Golf Course. The Douglaston Manor is a Spanish Mission-style building overlooking the golf course for banquets and weddings.

The Alley Pond Environmental Center on Northern Boulevard offers environmental education programs. Nearby, the Alley Pond Golf Center has a driving range and miniature golf. The private Douglaston Club in Douglas Manor offers activities including swimming, tennis and yachting.

The quality of the schools is a major reason families want to move to Douglaston. The 2 public elementary schools are PS 98 and PS 221. Students excel on 4th grade reading and math tests.
