Port Washington

Great town with diverse shops, award winning schools and the LIRR line that goes into NYC with ease.

Wonderful town to call "home".

Situated on Manhasset Bay at the base of Port Washington Neck, this unincorporated village lies just south of the exclusive and affluent neighborhoods of Manorhaven and Sands Point, and lies at one terminus of the Long Island Rail Road. This combination of attractive surroundings and convenient access to New York City have made it a favorite home base for commuters since the early 20th century. Historic homes from the past three centuries sit among more recent construction, offering new residents their choice of building styles. Neighborhood churches, especially Saint Peter of Alcantara, offer more examples of distinctive and historic architecture.

Port Washington lies along the east shore of Manhasset bay, offering fishing, public beaches and mooring facilities. The skyline and city lights of Manhattan are visible from many points throughout the community. Two 18-hole golf courses lie just across Port Washington road, and local parks offer playgrounds, sports facilities and miles of nature trails. Port Washington serves as a local hub for shopping, dining and entertainment for the smaller, exclusive surrounding communities.

Just under 20,000 people call Port Washington home, mostly affluent professionals and their families. The community is unincorportated, served by the Police District of North Hempstead and its own volunteer fire department. Public schools include five elementary schools, one middle school and one high school.
